03 November 1995, after several days of negotiating with the family of an armed man who had hijacked a helicopter and then holed up high on a mountain the man agreed to give himself to myself and a TV3 reporter. We flew him to the police station after taking his guns and doing an exclusive interview. The man hijacked the helicopter in protest of 1080 poisoning of the area to kill opossums by local authorities, complaining that the poison was also killing the native wildlife.
